Up to £85,000 | 4-day week | No out-of-hours | Leadership with real influence
When leadership matters as much as medicine
If you are at a stage in your career where you want to shape standards, mentor others, and still enjoy being a vet, this could be the role that finally brings all of that together.
You might already be a Clinical Director, or a senior Veterinary Surgeon who feels ready to step into broader leadership without losing the clinical side you love. Either way, this role is about impact, not firefighting.
The Opportunity
We are working with a long-established small animal practice in Leicestershire that has been serving its community for over a century. It is a place with deep roots, loyal clients, and a genuine reputation for doing things properly.
The practice has grown thoughtfully, investing in facilities, people, and systems that allow high standards of care without burning out the team. They are now looking for a Clinical Director who wants to lead from the front, set direction, and help an already-strong team become even better.
This is not a role where you inherit chaos. You will be stepping into a stable, well-run practice with the support of an experienced leadership structure and a wider group network behind you.
Why This Role Is Different
Clinical standards you can be proud of
You will be leading a multi-vet team with certificate holders in diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia, supported by experienced RVNs who actively utilise Schedule 3 procedures. The practice is a Gold Level Cat Friendly Clinic, with a genuine focus on low-stress handling and patient welfare.
Facilities that support good medicine
The practice is well equipped with modern theatres, digital X-ray, ultrasound, dental suite with dental X-ray, ECG, advanced anaesthetic monitoring, and a fully stocked in-house laboratory. ProCyte, SNAP, and Catalyst analysers support rapid diagnostics and informed decision-making.
A team that stays
The full team includes a Practice Manager, 7 Veterinary Surgeons, a Clinical Nursing Manager, 11 RVNs, 2 SVNs, and a dedicated client care team. Collaboration, respect, and learning are not buzzwords here, they are how the practice operates day to day.
Work-life balance that is actually respected
This is a 4-day week, 40 hours, 1:6 Saturdays, and no out-of-hours. Leadership responsibility here does not mean sacrificing your personal life.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on getting to know the people, understanding how the practice works, and building trust with the senior leadership team. There is time and space to listen before you lead.
By three months, you will be confidently overseeing clinical standards, contributing to strategic decisions, and supporting vets and nurses in their development. Your voice will matter.
By six months, you will be shaping the clinical and business direction of the practice, influencing recruitment and retention, and driving a culture that balances wellbeing, quality, and performance.
