A genuine leadership role. A team that listens. A chance to shape how great nursing care is delivered.
Feeling ready for more, without losing what you love?
If you are an experienced RVN who enjoys leading from the front but still wants hands-on clinical work, this role offers that balance. It is for someone who wants their voice heard, their skills trusted, and their development actively supported.
The Opportunity
We are working with a modern, purpose-built small animal practice in Doncaster that has built a reputation for doing things properly. Not rushed. Not chaotic. Just good medicine delivered by people who genuinely care about each other and their patients.
They are looking for a Deputy Head Nurse to support the Head Nurse in running a smooth, well-governed clinical environment. This is not about filling a gap. It is about finding someone who wants to help shape standards, support colleagues, and be part of a leadership team that values collaboration over hierarchy.
You will split your time between clinical nursing and leadership responsibilities, supporting nurse development, maintaining high clinical standards, and helping the practice continue to evolve as it grows.
Why This Role Is Different
Leadership with support, not pressure
You will work closely with an experienced Head Nurse who wants a true deputy, not just a name on a rota. You will be trusted to make decisions, contribute ideas, and help drive improvements, with support when you need it.
A varied and interesting caseload
This is a busy, well-equipped practice with a wide range of procedures and cases. No two days are the same, and nurses are actively encouraged to use and develop their full skill set.
A team that invests in learning
Several team members are working towards certificates, and CPD is actively encouraged, funded, and protected. Learning here is not an afterthought, it is part of the culture.
A rota designed for sustainability
You will work 39 to 40 hours per week, with 1 in 4 weekends and duty nights on rotation. The focus is on fairness, forward planning, and protecting the team from burnout.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on settling in, building relationships, understanding the practice protocols, and getting to know the team and their strengths.
By three months, you will be confidently supporting the Head Nurse with clinical governance, mentoring colleagues, and contributing ideas to improve efficiency and patient care.
By six months, you will be a key part of the leadership team, helping shape nursing standards, supporting nurse development, and potentially pursuing further training aligned with your interests.
