Leadership with real autonomy. A thriving mixed practice. Scotland on your doorstep.

If You’re Ready to Lead, Not Just Manage

If you are an experienced Equine or Farm vet who feels ready for more influence, more autonomy, and the chance to genuinely shape a department, this could be the step you have been working towards.

Not a token title. Not leadership in name only. But real responsibility, backed by real support.

The Opportunity

We are working with a well established, multi branch mixed practice in Dundee and the surrounding Tayside region that is looking for an Equine and Farm Clinical Director to guide and grow their large animal team.

This is a practice with deep roots in its community, covering Dundee, Angus, Fife and beyond. The equine and farm caseload is varied and well established, and the team is ready for someone who wants to lead from the front, clinically and strategically.

You would oversee a team of 4 to 5 Equine and Farm vets, working closely with three Small Animal Clinical Directors and an experienced Practice Manager. The wider group backing the practice provides leadership development, operational support and resources, but the day to day direction of the department is yours to shape.

If you have ideas about service expansion, team development, or clinical standards, they want to hear them.

Why This Role Is Different

A Leadership Role With Substance

You will lead and mentor 4 to 5 dedicated Equine and Farm vets, driving service quality and business development across the department. This is a genuine opportunity to influence direction, not simply maintain the status quo.

A Structure That Protects Your Time

A 1 in 5 on call rota, protected time off after nights, a half day every week, and a Monday off after a weekend on call. Work life balance is embedded into the rota, not added as an afterthought.

Proper Facilities for Proper Work

Across two sites you will have access to equine stables and stocks, an in house laboratory, mobile digital radiography, equine ultrasound, and a respiratory scope. Visiting specialists support advanced procedures, meaning you can retain and develop cases rather than automatically referring.

Stability With Backing

The practice is part of a respected veterinary group, offering HR, finance and operational support, while retaining clinical autonomy locally. You are supported, not micromanaged.

A Location That Gives You Space to Breathe

From the coastline to the glens, Tayside offers beaches, hill walking, mountain sports and historic towns, all within easy reach of Edinburgh and Aberdeen. You can build a career without sacrificing lifestyle.

Your Journey Here

Month 1: You will focus on understanding the team dynamics, current workflows and client base. You will start building trust with your fellow directors and the wider practice leadership.

Month 3: You will be confidently balancing clinical work with leadership responsibilities, mentoring colleagues and identifying areas for service development or efficiency improvements.

Month 6: You will be shaping the strategic direction of the Equine and Farm department, potentially exploring new service lines, supporting team CPD plans, and embedding the culture you want to lead.
