Autonomous overnight nursing. True emergency and critical care exposure.

If Nights Are Where You Do Your Best Work

If you are a Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys the focus and clinical depth of night work, but wants structure, support, and autonomy rather than chaos, this role is worth a closer look. This is a position where your skills are trusted, your judgement matters, and your nights have real purpose.

The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established 24-hour small animal hospital in North London, that has built its overnight service properly. This is not a skeleton shift holding the fort until morning. Nights here are an integral part of patient outcomes, with a clear clinical structure, strong leadership, and genuine respect for the nursing role.

You will join a dedicated night team made up of an RVN, a patient care assistant, and a veterinary surgeon. Together, you will manage emergency presentations, critical in-patients, and post-operative care with continuity and calm. There is real autonomy overnight, balanced with senior clinical support and clear protocols, so you are never isolated or left guessing.

This role suits an experienced nurse who values responsibility, enjoys emergency and critical care, and wants nights to feel professionally rewarding rather than simply exhausting.

Why This Role Is Different

Overnight Nursing Done Properly

This hospital treats night work as a specialist function. You will be central to emergency triage, intensive monitoring, and in-patient care, not just reactive tasks. Structured handovers ensure continuity between day and night teams.

Genuine Clinical Variety

Your caseload will include emergency surgeries, medical emergencies, critical care patients, and complex in-patient management. Cases range from acute trauma and GDV to intensive post-operative monitoring and medical stabilisation.

Autonomy With Real Support

You will be trusted to make nursing decisions overnight while having access to a Lead Night Veterinary Surgeon and a wider senior clinical team. This balance allows confidence to grow without feeling exposed.

Annualised Hours That Work in Real Life

Annualised overnight hours allow flexibility to swap night blocks for extended time off. This makes it possible to recover properly, plan life outside work, and avoid burnout.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month
You will focus on settling into the hospital, learning overnight protocols, and building trust within the night team. Structured handovers and clear systems will help you feel confident quickly.

By Three Months
You will be independently managing overnight nursing care, leading triage alongside the vet, and contributing actively to emergency and critical care cases. Your clinical judgement will be embedded in the team’s workflow.

By Six Months
You will be a key part of the overnight service, influencing patient care standards, contributing to clinical protocols, and potentially exploring further emergency and critical care training supported by the practice.
