No OOH | Structured consulting role | Tier 3 hospital

If you want to nurse properly, not just keep up

If you are an RVN who loves consulting, client relationships, and seeing continuity of care through properly, but feel squeezed by understaffing or rushed diaries, this role is worth your attention. This is a position designed around doing the job well, not just getting through the day.

The Opportunity

We are working with a long-established, tier 3 small animal hospital in Long Eaton, that has quietly built a reputation for excellent medicine and a genuinely supportive culture over more than forty years. This is a practice that has grown with intention, not pressure, and it shows in how the team works together.

You would be joining as a full-time Consulting RVN, rotating across four well-equipped sites, with protected consulting time and proper support around you. This is not a token consulting role. It is central to how the hospital delivers care, client communication, and continuity.

The nursing team is experienced, valued, and well staffed, with two consulting nurses scheduled each weekday. The caseload is busy and varied, both medically and surgically, and you are supported by certificate holders across multiple disciplines, alongside a dedicated night team that removes out-of-hours from your life entirely.

Why This Role Is Different

A consulting role that is actually protected

Your day runs 10.00am to 6.00pm, focused on consultations across all four sites. You are not constantly pulled away to firefight elsewhere. Consulting is respected here.

Predictable, fair rota with real rest

  • 40-hour week
  • Alternating weeks for balance
  • Week 1: Monday to Friday, weekends off
  • Week 2: Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday and Monday off
  • Every other Saturday with consulting in the morning and urgent ops in the afternoon
  • No out-of-hours, ever, thanks to a dedicated night team

Clinical depth without chaos

This is a busy hospital, but not a frantic one. You work alongside certificate holders in Ophthalmology, Medicine, Imaging, Dermatology, and Surgery, with outstanding facilities and equipment to match the standard of care expected.

A culture built on trust

People stay here. The team describes itself as friendly, like-minded, and united by one simple value: treating clients’ pets as if they were their own. Ideas are listened to, wellbeing is taken seriously, and support is visible day to day, not just promised.

Your Journey Here

In your first month, you will settle into the consulting structure, get to know the four sites, and build relationships with the wider nursing, vet, and reception teams. Support is hands-on and expectations are realistic.

By three months, you will be confidently running your consulting sessions, contributing to patient care plans, and feeling part of the rhythm of the hospital. Your strengths and interests will be recognised, not overlooked.

By six months, you will be a key part of the consulting service, with opportunities to develop further clinically or mentor others, supported by funded CPD and a practice that values long-term growth.
