Hospital-level nursing • Varied caseload • Genuine development and support
If you are an RVN who loves variety but does not want to feel stretched thin
If you already have a couple of years of nursing experience under your belt and enjoy being hands-on across different departments, but want to feel properly supported while you do it, this role is well worth your time.
The Opportunity
We are working with a large, well-established veterinary hospital on the East London and Essex border that has built a reputation for doing things properly. This is a true hospital RVN role where your skills are valued, your development is encouraged, and your workload is shared across a deep, experienced team.
This is a full-time, 40-hour role across five days, ideal for an RVN who enjoys rotating between theatre, wards, consults and ECC. You will not be boxed into one area unless that is what you want long term. If you shine in one department but feel less confident in another, you will be supported rather than judged.
The hospital acts as both a first opinion practice and a referral centre for surrounding branches, meaning the caseload is varied, interesting and exactly what many hospital RVNs hope for but rarely find.
Why This Role Is Different
A proper hospital environment
This is not hospital in name only. You will have access to a CT scanner, an on-site commercial laboratory, and a strong medical and surgical team. Advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive surgeries are performed routinely on site, with nurses fully involved in patient care.
A large, experienced nursing team
You will be one of approximately 27 RVNs, supported by 14 SVNs, 7 VCAs, and a substantial front-of-house team. There is always someone to lean on, ask questions of, or learn from, whether you are on wards, in theatre or supporting ECC.
Structured leadership and support
You are backed by senior RVNs, two deputy head nurses, a head nurse, head vet and hospital manager. Weekend charge nurse duties are supported and guided, not thrown at you without preparation.
Development without pressure
Training gaps are expected and welcomed. Whether you want to strengthen your ward nursing, build confidence in consults, or explore leadership in the future, support and leadership training are available when you are ready.
Location that works
The hospital sits on the edge of urban Essex, close enough to countryside life while being exceptionally well connected. Central Line station is a short walk away, making travel into London straightforward. Public transport is advised as there is no on-site parking.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on settling in, learning hospital protocols, and getting comfortable rotating through departments with senior support around you.
By three months, you will be confidently managing inpatients, assisting in theatre and consults, handling client communications, and contributing fully to the nursing team, including supported charge nurse duties when required.
By six months, you will be a trusted hospital RVN, comfortable across departments, with the option to start leadership development or further clinical progression depending on your interests.
