4-day week | 24-hour hospital exposure | Genuine nursing autonomy

If you want to feel trusted, challenged, and properly utilised as a nurse

If you are an RVN who enjoys being busy, values variety, and wants a role where your nursing skills are genuinely used rather than parked on the side lines, this could be the change you have been looking for.

The Opportunity

We are working with a busy, first opinion 24-hour veterinary hospital in Leigh, near Manchester. This is a well-established hospital environment where nurses are central to how the practice functions, not an afterthought.

This role is designed for an enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys diversity in their day. You will rotate through multiple departments including theatre, consults, pharmacy, emergency care, and inpatient nursing. There is also a clear opportunity for an RVN with a strong interest in theatre and anaesthesia to shape their role in that direction.

The hospital runs a structured 4-day working week, with 10-hour shifts between 7am and 8pm, and a fair 1 in 5 weekend rota. It is busy, it is fast-paced, and it is not a role for someone who wants a quiet clinic. What it does offer is excellent support, proper staffing, and the chance to grow into a highly skilled hospital nurse.

Why This Role Is Different

Nursing is hands-on here

This is a genuinely nurse-led environment in many areas. You will be fully utilising your Schedule 3 skills, supporting complex cases, and playing an active role in patient care rather than just assisting.

True hospital exposure without constant nights

You gain the clinical depth of a 24-hour hospital, including emergency and inpatient care, while still working predominantly day shifts within a structured rota.

Supportive, experienced team

You will work alongside a dedicated group of experienced vets and nurses who value collaboration. The team culture is friendly, practical, and focused on doing right by both patients and colleagues.

Progression is encouraged, not just promised

Nurse development is taken seriously. Many nurses within the team are currently undertaking, or have completed, further qualifications and certificates with full support from the practice.

Your Journey Here

In your first month, you will focus on settling into the hospital, learning systems, and rotating through departments to understand how the team works together. Support is hands-on and structured.

By three months, you will be confidently managing your responsibilities across departments, contributing fully to theatre, inpatient care, and emergency support. If you have a particular interest, such as anaesthesia, this is where that focus starts to develop.

By six months, you will be a trusted, integral member of the nursing team, potentially pursuing funded CPD or additional training, and shaping your role around your strengths and interests.
