No weekends. No on-call. Advanced nursing. Proper balance.
If you love hospital nursing, but not at the expense of your life
If you are an experienced RVN who enjoys complex cases and high standards, but feels drained by relentless rotas, weekends, or out-of-hours, this role may feel like a breath of fresh air.
This is a chance to work at the top of your licence, in a genuinely well-resourced hospital, while still having evenings and weekends that are your own.
The Opportunity
We are working with a purpose-built, RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital in Brighton, that has built something rare. A true referral-level environment that still protects work-life balance.
This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover, starting June 2026, within a busy 24-hour hospital that supports five branch practices alongside local referring vets. The nursing team plays a central role in patient care, clinical decision-making, and the smooth running of advanced cases.
You will be joining a large, experienced hospital team that values calm, organised nursing and supports nurses to develop real expertise rather than just cope with demand.
Why This Role Is Different
Hospital-level nursing, done properly
You will be working with emergency and advanced medical cases daily, supported by multiple certificate holders and clinicians with special interests. This is not first-opinion firefighting. It is structured, thoughtful hospital care.
Facilities that support high standards
The hospital is purpose-built with:
- Dedicated cat, dog, exotic, isolation, and day procedure wards
- A fully equipped in-house laboratory
- Advanced imaging and referral services including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and exotics
Everything is designed to allow you to nurse to a high standard without cutting corners.
Balance that is genuinely protected
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- No weekends
- No on-call
For a hospital role, this is a standout rota and it is firmly protected by the team.
A culture that values nurses
This is a setting where nurses are listened to, trusted, and encouraged to develop. Many team members have long tenures, and there is a strong emphasis on collaboration rather than hierarchy.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on settling into the hospital, getting to know the wards, systems, and referral workflows, and building relationships across the nursing and veterinary teams.
By three months, you will be confidently managing a varied caseload, supporting advanced diagnostics and treatments, and contributing ideas to improve patient care and team processes.
By six months, you will be a trusted, integral member of the hospital nursing team, potentially pursuing CPD aligned with your clinical interests and supporting the development of others around you.
