80% clinical. Genuine leadership influence. Specialist referral environment.
Ready to Lead Without Losing the Clinical Work You Love?
If you are an experienced RVN who enjoys being hands-on, but feels ready to step into real leadership, this could be the balance you have been looking for.
The Opportunity
We are working with a specialist small animal referral hospital in Wellington, Somerset, that has built its reputation on handling the cases others cannot. This is not a first opinion setting. This is advanced diagnostics, complex surgery, and a team that thrives on clinical challenge.
They are looking for a Rotational RVN Team Leader, not simply to fill a rota gap, but to strengthen the nursing voice at leadership level. Around 80% of your time remains clinical, working alongside your team in theatre, imaging, wards and referrals. The remaining time is about shaping standards, supporting people, and ensuring the hospital runs as smoothly as the medicine it delivers.
You will sit alongside the Head of Nursing Services, Clinical Director, Hospital Director and other Team Leaders, contributing to site-level decisions. This is leadership with influence, not leadership in name only.
Why This Role Is Different
Specialist-Level Clinical Exposure
You will work with advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment including CT, MRI, digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, and fully equipped theatres. Complex orthopaedic, neurological and soft tissue cases are part of everyday life here, giving you genuine clinical depth.
Leadership With Real Responsibility
You will provide direct and indirect line management, oversee recruitment, support inductions, and guide a Lead Nurse and allocated team members. You are trusted to delegate appropriately while maintaining high standards of patient and client care.
A Collaborative Hospital Culture
This is a large referral environment where collaboration matters. Nurses, surgeons and specialists communicate clearly and respectfully. The nursing perspective is actively represented in site conversations, not sidelined.
Beautiful South West Setting
Based in Wellington, Somerset, you are within easy reach of coastline, countryside and national parks. A place where your days off can genuinely feel like a reset.
Your Journey Here
In Your First Month
You will focus on understanding patient flow, building trust within the rotational team, and getting comfortable with systems and leadership expectations. Clinically, you will be immersed in complex referral cases from day one.
By Three Months
You will confidently balance clinical work with line management responsibilities. You will be contributing to operational conversations and supporting recruitment or induction processes where needed.
By Six Months
You will be an established leader within the hospital, confidently representing your team in wider discussions, driving quality improvement initiatives, and shaping a positive, engaged nursing culture.
