Sole-charge nursing | True community branch | 4-day week

When You Want Responsibility Without Being Left Alone

If you are a confident RVN who enjoys autonomy, continuity, and genuinely getting to know your clients and patients, but still wants the reassurance of wider hospital support when you need it, this role is likely to resonate.

This is a position for someone who likes being trusted, values relationships, and takes real pride in high clinical standards.

The Opportunity

We are working with a respected, multi-site veterinary group in Surrey, that has achieved something many practices talk about but few truly deliver. The clinical standards and facilities of a large, RCVS-accredited hospital, paired with the warmth, pace, and familiarity of a local community branch.

This particular role is based at a small, friendly branch practice serving a loyal client base. You will be the sole RVN on site, working closely with an experienced vet and a dedicated receptionist. While you will run the nursing side of the practice day to day, you are fully supported by a flagship hospital just a short drive away for complex cases, advice, and backup.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract covering maternity leave, but it is a role with real substance, not a stopgap.

Why This Role Is Different

A Proper Sole-Charge Role

You will genuinely run your clinics and nursing schedule, from patient admissions through to recovery and discharge. This is not token responsibility. Your clinical judgement is trusted and valued.

Support That Is Actually There

Although the branch operates independently day to day, the wider hospital team is always available. Complex cases are referred internally, not left on your shoulders, and you are never isolated clinically.

Varied, Hands-On Nursing

The branch typically sees a busy consult caseload alongside one to two operations per day. You will be fully involved in anaesthesia, surgical nursing, inpatient care, and nurse consults, keeping your skills sharp and your days interesting.

A Team That Stays

The branch senior nurse has been qualified for 14 years and speaks openly about the stability, appreciation from clients, and continuity of care. This is a practice where people tend to stay because it works.

A Lovely Place to Spend Your Day

Set in a village environment with open spaces nearby, good transport links, and a genuine community feel, it is a pleasant place to work and unwind, even on your lunch break.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month
You will settle into the rhythm of the branch, build relationships with clients, and get comfortable running nurse consults, anaesthetics, and inpatient care with the support of the wider group.

By Three Months
You will be confidently managing the nursing side of the practice, running clinics independently, and acting as a key clinical presence within the branch.

By Six Months
You will feel fully embedded, trusted by clients and colleagues alike, and making the role your own, while continuing to access CPD and hospital support as needed.
