Genuine 4 day week. No OOH. No sole charge. 3 star world class workplace accreditation.
If You Love Being a Vet, But Not the Burnout
If you are an experienced small animal vet who still loves the medicine and surgery but could happily live without the out of hours, the sole charge pressure, and the constant firefighting, this could feel like a reset.
The Opportunity
We are working with a large, RCVS accredited small animal practice in beautiful coastal Dorset that has built its reputation on something refreshingly simple. Take great care of patients. Take even better care of the team.
This is not a practice plugging a gap. They are looking for a confident, experienced vet who wants to be a true part of the clinical fabric. Someone comfortable with a busy medical and surgical caseload, who enjoys imaging, and who genuinely likes sharing knowledge with colleagues.
You will be based at their Bournemouth site, working alongside a substantial, experienced team, with the backing of a sister site that includes advanced facilities such as CT and an in house orthopaedic service.
Why This Role Is Different
A Proper Team, Not Just a Rota
You will join a team of 4 full time vets, 5 part time vets, 5 RVNs, 3 SVNs and 2 ANAs, plus a dedicated support team. There is no sole charge and no being left to figure things out alone. Two vets are on site on Saturdays. Collaboration is the norm, not the exception.
Clinical Depth and Variety
Certificate holders in diagnostic imaging, exotics and rehabilitation. An in house orthopaedics service. A CT suite at the sister branch. A genuinely varied caseload from a large and loyal client base. If you enjoy working cases up properly, you will have the tools and the support to do it.
A Work Life Balance That Is Actually Real
- 40 hours over 4 days
- 1 in 4 Saturdays
- No out of hours
- No Sundays
- No bank holidays
- No on call
This is a structure designed to be sustainable long term.
A Culture People Are Proud Of
They have recently achieved a 3 star world class accreditation from Best Companies, the highest level for workplace engagement. The team describes themselves as ego free, positive and genuinely supportive. They work hard, then paddle board, run, BBQ and celebrate together.
A Location That Delivers
Miles of coastline. Water sports on your doorstep. Countryside within minutes. Excellent transport links, with London easily accessible. Ferry access to Europe from nearby Poole and an airport in Bournemouth. If lifestyle matters to you, this area delivers.
Your Journey Here
Month 1: You will focus on integrating into the team, understanding workflows across the Bournemouth site, and getting comfortable with the caseload and equipment. You will build relationships with nurses and fellow vets so you always feel supported.
By Month 3: You will be confidently managing a high medical and surgical workload, contributing to case discussions, and beginning to explore CPD options that align with your clinical interests.
By Month 6: You will be an established, trusted member of the team. Whether that means developing advanced imaging skills, pursuing a certificate with financial support, or helping mentor colleagues, your direction will be actively supported.
