Four day week. No out of hours. Clinical freedom in a genuinely compassionate, independent practice.

Tired of feeling like just another name on the rota?

If you are craving real clinical freedom, a team that has your back, and evenings that are actually yours, this could be the reset you have been looking for.

The Opportunity

We are working with a fiercely independent small animal practice in Southwick, Sunderland, that has built its reputation on one simple principle: patients first, always. This is not a volume driven machine. It is a close knit, compassionate team that values time, continuity and doing the right thing.

They are looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon who wants to practise high quality medicine without unnecessary pressure. Someone who values collaboration, who enjoys building relationships with clients, and who wants to feel proud of the care they deliver each day.

Set just ten minutes from the coast, in an area that has recently benefited from regeneration, you are close to vibrant restaurants, water activities and long, peaceful beach walks. It is a lifestyle location as much as a clinical one.

Why This Role Is Different

True Clinical Freedom, Backed by Investment

You will be supported to work cases up properly with access to:

  • Digital radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • Endoscopy
  • Electrocautery
  • A comprehensive in house laboratory
  • Imagyst for same day cytology results

This is a practice that invests in tools because it believes in empowering its vets, not restricting them.

An Experienced, Qualified Nursing Team

You will work alongside highly skilled, qualified nurses in a practice that is proud to be a VN training centre. You are not expected to do it all alone. The nursing team is capable, engaged and genuinely part of the clinical decision making process.

A Culture That Puts Wellbeing First

The leadership team operates an open door policy and takes wellbeing seriously. Whether life throws professional or personal challenges your way, support is available. The team regularly spends time together outside of work, not because they have to, but because they want to.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month
You will focus on settling in, building relationships with the vets and nurses, and getting comfortable with the practice systems and equipment. There is time to ask questions and find your rhythm.

By Three Months
You will be confidently managing your own caseload, collaborating closely with the nursing team and beginning to shape how you like to approach consultations and surgery. If there is an area of interest, conversations about CPD will already be underway.

By Six Months
You will feel established and valued. Clients will recognise you. You will be influencing clinical discussions and potentially pursuing further development, supported both financially and practically.
