No out-of-hours | Early finishes three days a week

A Role That Lets You Enjoy Being a Vet Again

If you love small animal practice but feel like the pace, the hours, or the constant out-of-hours work is slowly draining the enjoyment from the job, this could be the reset you have been hoping for.

This role offers the chance to work in a genuinely well supported hospital environment where high standards of medicine go hand in hand with a rota designed to protect your life outside the clinic.

The Opportunity

We are working with a large, purpose-built small animal hospital in South London that has built a reputation for delivering exceptional clinical care while creating a workplace where vets can actually sustain long, happy careers.

This is not a practice looking to plug a gap. They are looking for a vet who wants to be part of a collaborative clinical team, someone who values thoughtful medicine, strong nursing support, and the ability to follow cases through properly.

You will be joining a hospital that invests heavily in its facilities, its people, and its clinical standards. The result is a place where interesting cases stay in house, clinical discussions are encouraged, and the whole team works together to deliver genuinely outstanding care.

Why This Role Is Different

Clinical Standards That Are Recognised

This hospital has been awarded five “Outstanding” awards through the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, covering areas such as consulting, inpatient care, client care, team culture, and environmental sustainability. Independent assessors have described it as “a superb practice of the highest order”.

A Hospital Built for Proper Medicine

You will be working in a recently refurbished facility with:

  • Dedicated ultrasound suite
  • Digital radiography
  • Separate dentistry suite
  • Two large operating theatres
  • Separate dog and cat waiting areas and wards
  • Gold standard cat friendly accreditation and dog friendly facilities

This setup allows the team to manage complex medical and surgical cases on site rather than referring them elsewhere.

No Out-of-Hours. Ever.

Out-of-hours care is handled by an on-site emergency provider, meaning your inpatients receive continuous care without you needing to cover overnight shifts. It also means interesting cases remain within the hospital for continuity.

A Team That Actually Collaborates

You will be working alongside multiple certificate holders in medicine, surgery and ophthalmology, supported by highly skilled nurses, patient care assistants, and a dedicated client care team. Daily inpatient rounds and case discussions are the norm.

A Rota Designed Around Life

Work-life balance is not a slogan here. It is built into the rota:

  • Three early shifts each week finishing before 4pm
  • Late shifts run 10am to 8pm
  • Only 1 in 8 weekends
  • Time off in lieu the following week

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month
You will focus on settling into the team, getting familiar with the hospital systems, and building relationships with the nursing team who play a huge role in patient care.

By Three Months
You will be confidently managing your own caseload, working closely with colleagues on more complex cases, and beginning to explore CPD opportunities that align with your interests.

By Six Months
You will be fully embedded in the clinical team, contributing to case discussions, developing your preferred areas of medicine or surgery, and potentially planning further training or certification.
