  • Salary: £60,000

True 4 Day Week • No Out of Hours • Structured, Supportive Environment

If you love being a vet, but want your evenings back…

If you are passionate about delivering great medicine but tired of chaotic rotas, relentless on call, or feeling like you are constantly firefighting, this could be the reset you have been looking for.

The Opportunity

We are working with an RCVS accredited small animal practice in Cardiff that has quietly built something many vets say they want but rarely find. A structured, well supported environment where quality medicine and genuine work life balance coexist.

This is a three branch practice with a central hospital, and you would work across sites on a shared rota. Your week would include a balanced mix of consulting, operating and inpatient care, with proper time to think, plan and follow cases through.

They use a hybrid out of hours model. There is a dedicated external provider overnight, but inpatients are kept Monday to Thursday with an RVN on site. It is a thoughtful approach that protects patient care while protecting your downtime too.

They are not looking to simply fill a gap. They are looking for a confident all rounder who enjoys both medical and surgical work, values teamwork, and wants to be part of a practice that believes looking after each other is the foundation of looking after patients.

Why This Role Is Different

A Properly Structured Day

•  20 minute consultations as standard
•  Dedicated admin time built into your day
•  Lunch breaks are protected and encouraged

There is a clinical management team present at all times, so you are not left carrying the weight alone.

A Large, Experienced Clinical Team

•  Around 20 vets and nurses across the group
•  Multiple certificate holders, including both vets and RVNs
•  A culture built around quality improvement and evidence based medicine

You will be surrounded by experience, not isolated decision making.

Modern First Opinion Facilities

As you would expect from a progressive first opinion practice, they are well equipped and set up to manage a broad range of medical and surgical cases in house. The focus is on enabling you to do your job well, not cutting corners.

Cardiff on Your Doorstep

•  City living with independent eateries, culture and events
•  Easy access to the Brecon Beacons for hiking and fresh air
•  Beautiful South Wales coastline within easy reach

You can finish your four day week and genuinely switch off.

Your Journey Here

Month 1: You will focus on getting to know the team, understanding their systems, and building relationships with clients. With structured days and senior support available, you will settle in without feeling overwhelmed.

Month 3: You will be confidently managing your own caseload across consults, surgery and inpatients. You will start shaping your clinical interests and discussing CPD that aligns with your goals.

Month 6: You will be a trusted member of the team, contributing to clinical discussions and quality improvement. If further qualifications appeal, there is support to pursue them.
