A senior clinical role with real influence, a 4-day week, and a mission-led hospital where leadership genuinely matters

If you want more than just being the most senior vet on the rota

If you are an experienced vet who enjoys leading people as much as treating patients, and you want the time, trust, and support to do both properly, this could be the role you have been waiting for.

This is for someone who wants their clinical judgement to shape standards, culture, and outcomes, not just fill diary slots.

The Opportunity

We are working with a large, purpose-built 24-hour veterinary hospital in Shrewsbury that has been built around one clear principle: making high-quality veterinary care accessible, without compromising on standards or people.

This Lead Veterinary Surgeon role is about guiding, supporting, and developing a team of vets within a well-established hospital environment. You will work in true partnership with an experienced Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, shaping how the hospital runs day to day while keeping patient care at the heart of every decision.

Rather than firefighting or micromanaging, your focus will be on coaching, mentoring, clinical governance, and embedding values that create a calm, caring, and sustainable working environment.

Why This Role Is Different

A hospital designed for proper medicine

This is a fully equipped 24-hour facility with:

  • Two theatre suites, including one dedicated to advanced surgery
  • A separate dental suite
  • Dedicated dog and cat wards, with a strong focus on feline-friendly care
  • Five consulting rooms supporting a varied and interesting caseload
  • A clinical team that includes surgical certificate holders

Leadership with real influence

You will:

  • Set and uphold clinical standards across the hospital
  • Coach and mentor vets at different stages of their careers
  • Lead clinical governance and staff meetings with confidence and purpose
  • Be involved in reviewing KPIs and P&L alongside the management team

Free consultations and transparent pricing mean your clinical decisions are guided by what pets need, not sales targets.

Your Journey Here

In your first month, you will focus on getting to know the team, understanding hospital workflows, and building trust through hands-on clinical leadership.

By three months, you will be confidently leading clinical standards, supporting vets through coaching and one-to-one meetings, and contributing to operational discussions around performance and efficiency.

By six months, you will be a central figure in the hospital’s clinical direction, helping shape culture, mentoring future leaders, and embedding best practice across the team.
