4-day week • Large supportive clinical team • Genuine work-life balance
Looking for a Role Where You Can Actually Enjoy Being a Vet Again?
If you enjoy the variety of first opinion practice but want the support, facilities, and team around you to truly thrive, this could be the role you have been hoping to find.
The Opportunity
We are working with a well established, multi-site small animal practice on the Somerset and Wiltshire border that has quietly built something many vets are searching for. A place where collaboration is the norm, clinical standards are high, and no one is expected to carry the workload alone.
This is a large, experienced clinical team of 24 vets, supported by over 50 nurses, where knowledge sharing is part of everyday practice. Several clinicians hold certificates in areas such as medicine, surgery, cardiology and feline medicine, with others actively studying. There is also access to a visiting Diplomate led ophthalmology service, giving the team exposure to a wide variety of interesting cases.
They are not looking to simply fill a rota gap. They are hoping to welcome a veterinary surgeon who enjoys good medicine, values teamwork, and wants a workplace where development and wellbeing are genuinely supported.
If you enjoy varied caseloads, strong nursing support, and a culture where your voice is heard, you will likely feel at home here.
Why This Role Is Different
A Clinical Team That Shares Knowledge
- 24 veterinary surgeons with a wide mix of clinical interests including orthopaedics, ECC, cardiology, internal medicine, dentistry, ultrasound imaging and exotics
- Monthly vet meetings and quarterly in person clinical breakfasts where protocols and ideas are openly discussed
- A collaborative culture where advice is easy to access and learning never stops
Facilities That Support High Standards
Across the group you will have access to modern equipment including:
- Digital radiography and dental radiography
- Ultrasound imaging
- Laparoscopic surgical equipment
- Orthopaedic surgical capability
- Laser therapy
- Isolation wards
- Onsite laboratory diagnostics
- CT scanning available at the hospital site
All branches are ISFM Cat Friendly Clinics, with dedicated feline appointment blocks to improve patient experience.
Exceptional Nursing and Client Care Support
Veterinary surgeons are supported by more than 50 nurses, including experienced RVNs performing Schedule 3 procedures. Alongside them sits a dedicated client care and call handling team who manage communications and triage, allowing vets to focus on patient care.
Real Continuity of Care
The practice runs its own RCVS accredited small animal hospital providing 24 hour care, staffed overnight by a dedicated night nurse team. This means patients stay within the same clinical network and vets can follow cases through.
Your Journey Here
Month 1
You will focus on settling into the team, getting familiar with the hospital and branch systems, and building relationships with the nursing and client care teams who support the clinical work.
Month 3
You will be confidently managing consults and routine surgeries, enjoying the variety of consulting, theatre and hospital work across the rota while exploring areas of clinical interest.
Month 6
By this point you will feel fully embedded within the clinical team. Many vets at this stage begin pursuing additional CPD or exploring funded certificate opportunities aligned with their interests.
