True 4-day week | Strong medicine focus | Supportive 9-vet team | Certificate support

Looking for the Kind of Practice Where Medicine Really Matters?

If you’re an experienced vet who enjoys working cases up properly, discussing ideas with colleagues, and practising thoughtful medicine rather than rushing through appointments, this could be the kind of role you’ve been hoping to find.

The Opportunity

We’re working with a well-established first opinion small animal practice in Syston, Leicestershire that has built a reputation for combining progressive veterinary medicine with a genuinely supportive team culture.

This isn’t a practice simply looking to fill a rota gap. They’re looking for a vet who enjoys clinical thinking, case continuity, and being part of a collaborative environment where ideas are shared and learning never really stops.

You’ll join a team of 9 vets with varied experience, including multiple certificate holders and an advanced practitioner in small animal medicine. The environment is supportive without being hierarchical, with experienced clinicians happy to discuss cases and newer vets encouraged to develop their confidence.

If your interests lean towards medicine, you’ll find plenty of opportunity here to investigate cases thoroughly, develop diagnostic plans, and build relationships with clients who value the level of care their pets receive.

Why This Role Is Different

A genuinely collaborative clinical team

You’ll work alongside 9 vets, including clinicians with postgraduate certificates and an advanced practitioner in small animal medicine, supported by a skilled nursing team. Clinical club meetings regularly bring the team together to discuss interesting cases and share ideas.

A practice that invests in clinical development

The practice already has 6 certificate holders across the wider business, and further certificates are actively encouraged. Internal CPD days, funded external courses, and case discussions are part of everyday life here.

A caseload that keeps things interesting

As a busy first opinion practice, the team sees a diverse and varied caseload, allowing vets to develop their diagnostic skills and manage cases thoroughly rather than immediately referring.

A team culture that values balance

The practice works a 4-day week because they recognise the demands of veterinary life. The diary also allows time for administration and client communication, and appointments can be adjusted to accommodate personal commitments or important events.

Support for the next generation

If you enjoy mentoring, you’ll have the opportunity to support and guide new graduate vets, helping them build confidence while developing your own leadership skills.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month
You’ll focus on settling into the team, getting familiar with the systems, and building relationships with colleagues. You’ll start seeing consults while learning how the team collaborates on more complex cases.

By Month Three
You’ll be confidently managing your own caseload, working cases up with support when needed, and contributing to clinical discussions during meetings. If mentoring interests you, you’ll begin supporting newer vets.

By Six Months
You’ll be a valued clinical voice within the team, potentially exploring further CPD or a certificate pathway while helping shape how cases are approached within the practice.
